August 13th is International Left-Handers Day.  The latin etymology of the word sinister traces itself back to left-handed.  Joseph Dwyer was born on Friday, August 13, 1982, the same day Friday the 13th part III in 3D was released in American theaters.  He shares this birthday with Alfred Hitchcock.  As he grew up, Joseph indeed turned out to be left-handed.  Through the matrilineal bloodline, he descends from Samuel Wardell, one of the 20 individuals executed for allegedly practicing witchcraft in Salem, MA, 1692.  Joseph believes in witchcraft, synchronicity and the universe.

Joseph Dwyer is a filmmaker and photographer currently based out of Oakland, CA, USA.  He is interested in self-reflexivity, celluloid/digital junctures, gender, sexuality and abject horror.  Currently in The Dual Degree MA/MFA program at The San Francisco Art Institute, he is originally from Providence, RI, and earned a BA from Hampshire College.

His work has been shown in festivals, programs and galleries in San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Chicago, IL, Providence, RI, Winnipeg, Canada, and Berlin, Germany.
